If you do not register for attendance or non-attendance during the registration period (1 May–2 September), you will lose your right to pursue a degree at the University of Helsinki. Please note that if you fail to register as either attending or non-attending, the elapsed time is included in your target study time.
If your normative duration of study ended on 31 July 2019 and you have been registered as either attending or non-attending as well as applied for/received an extension from your faculty, then you do not have to pay a re-enrolment fee when registering after the actual registration time.
The process for reactivating your right to study depends on the timing of your application for readmission.
Returning during the academic year in which you forgot to register
If, after having failed to register as an attending or non-attending student at the University, you wish to do so during the same academic year (i.e., by 31 July), you need not apply to your faculty for the reinstatement of your right to study. You need only pay the re-enrolment fee and, when registering for attendance, the Student Union membership fee. Read more under Payment and registration and Re-enrolment fee.
If you wish to continue your studies after 31 July, you have to apply for readmission into the faculty. The application for readmission has to be addressed to the faculty where you held the right to pursue a degree. If you held the right to pursue a degree in several faculties, you can submit the application(s) to the faculties in which you wish to continue studying.
See instructions on how to apply here.
Once the faculty has reactivated you right to study, read on for payment and registration instructions.
Payments and registration
You have to pay both the re-enrolment fee and the Student Union fee.
After paying the fees, you need to send the the receipts of the payments to Student Services. A printout from your online bank is accepted as a receipt if it includes the Archive ID. If you have a readmission decision from your faculty, remember to include it as well. Please note that the re-enrolment fee is degree-specific.
