Master's and Licentiate's Programmes
The new degree requirements (2017–2020) for doctoral programmes became valid on August 1st, 2017. A transition period of three years has been decided on, giving students the opportunity to complete their degree following the old, major subject -specific degree requirements up until July 31st, 2020, should they so wish. Students who have not completed their degree by that date will be automatically transferred to complete their degree following the new degree requirements on August 1st, 2020.
A doctoral student who is registered as attending can transfer to the new degree requirements at any time within the three-year transition period. There is no need to rush and it’s best to consider the possibilities carefully before transferring. The decision to transfer to the new requirements is binding and cannot be cancelled once done.
If the pre-examination of your doctoral thesis is started at the Faculty Council by January 2020 at the latest, you don't, as a rule, need to transfer to the new degree requirements. For more information on graduating following the old degree requirements, please see here.
