Bachelor’s and master’s degree students who reside in Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen, Vantaa, Kerava, Sipoo or Kirkkonummi are, as a rule, entitled to student fares. A valid student card is required. In addition to using a traditional student card, you can also use the digital Frank App student card to verify your right to discounted fares. If you do not have a student card yet, you will need to present a completed HSL discount ticket application (pdf), furnished with the university’s stamp, to receive the discount. Please note that your address needs to be registered at the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
Alternatively, you can get your student discount by using the HSL app. Please see the instructions by HSL on the prerequisites for getting the discount via the app.
For more information on travel cards and transport fares in the metropolitan area, please refer to the HSL website.
Exchange students are also entitled to the student discount if they meet the eligibility criteria set by HSL. As an exchange student you will need to present a completed HSL discount ticket application, furnished with the university’s stamp, to receive the discount.
