Student Advice

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

The student service points provide student advice for all students at the University. General student advice is available on all campuses. The Kaisa House Student Advice advises you also with questions on language and communication studies. Advice related to your degree and studies is available at the student service point of your home faculty.

Urgent question and all service points are closed? The student advice chat bot Hubotti is available for your questions 24/7.

How to choose the right service point

A white sign with the text "Student Advice" in three languages.

Choose a service point based on what type of advice you need: general student advice or advice related to your degree.

General student advice is available at all of the following service points:

Faculty-specific advice is offered by the service points in Kruununhaka, Kumpula, Meilahti, Metsätalo, Porthania, Siltavuori and Viikki. Each service point is specialized in one or several faculties, and offers advice related to degrees and studies at that faculty.

Advice for international degree students is also given by the International Student Advice, specialized for example on questions related to tuition fees, registering with the authorities, and other practical questions related to living and studying in Helsinki.

Advice on doctoral degrees is given by Services for Doctoral Education. Open University students can be in touch with the Open University Student Services.

General advice for using Sisu (technical questions, choosing the right application type etc.) is given by the Kaisa House Student Advice. If you need Sisu advice concerning the degree requirements of your degree programme or study track, please contact your home faculty’s student service point.

How to contact the service points

A red phone on a white surface.

Before you’re in touch with the student advice, please check to see if the answer to your questions is easily available in the instructions. The service points get a lot of questions for example on the following topics:

Choose the contact method that best suits your particular situation:

  • Visit to a service point: Check the opening hours and location of your chosen service point below. Please note that some service points are open by appointment only.
  • Email: If possible, use your University email address for contacting us. If you use a different address, always mention your full name, student number (or date of birth) and your phone number.
  • Phone: Check the phone service hours of your chosen service point below. Please note that the phone services are meant for general questions. The Kaisa House service point does not have phone service.
  • Chat: The Kaisa House service point offers general student advice by chat. Outside service hours you can chat with our chatbot Hubot. You can find the chat one the right side of this window above the feedback button. If you can't see the chat, make sure you have accepted functional cookies.
  • Booking an appointment: If you have a topic that requires more looking into, you can book an appointment to the service point of your home faculty. When making the booking, please explain your situation in sufficient detail to allow us to prepare for your visit in advance.

NB: Please avoid trying to contact us through Sisu. The message and comment functions in Sisu are primarily meant for interacting with your PSP instructor.

  • updates changes to your personal information in the student register
  • provides for example official transcripts of records, certificates of student status, meal subsidy cards and annual stickers to the student card
  • fills out different forms and certificates, for example HSL-forms for student discount in public transport.

International Student Advice

A group of students chatting in a lecture hall.

International Student Advice is the first point of contact for all international degree students at the University of Helsinki, especially in cases where you do not know whom to contact. We provide advice on matters such as:

  • tuition fees and scholarships
  • registering with authorities
  • healthcare
  • other topics related to living and studying in Finland.

We can also help you find the right contact person as needed.

The service is operated by Student Advisers who are all international students themselves and have been trained for this role and thus possess the personal experience and professional capacity to help other international students. The service operates in a completely confidential manner concerning students’ personal matters.

The purpose of this new service is to provide a place where all international students can be heard and seen. Write to us at our email address or come say hi at our service desk, and we will be happy to help!
