How are studies completed?
At the University of Helsinki, students plan their studies independently. There are many ways to complete studies and the most common modes of completion are described here.
How do I register for my courses and exams?
In addition to registering as for the academic year, you will have to register separately for all courses which you intend to complete.
Where can I find textbooks?
The Helsinki University Main Library is located in Kaisa House on the City Centre Campus. Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki also have their own campus libraries.
In a General Examination/Faculty Exam you can for instance retake course exams or do literature examinations that are not related to teaching.
Taking exams in Examinarium electronic exam rooms
You can take certain exams electronically at a time and exam room of your choice.
Retaking completed studies and improving grades
You can retake an approved examination or course no more than two times.
Register your study modules
Once you have completed all studies required for a specific module, you will have to request that the completed module be registered.
Order a Transcript of Studies
As a current or former student of the University of Helsinki, you can order an unofficial or official transcript of your studies.
Language of instruction and language of learning
The language of learning may be different than the language of instruction or your own native language.
Recognition and validation of prior learning
You can apply to have credits and other prior learning transferred towards your degree.
Expiry of Studies
The university has set timelines within which your completed studies are valid for degrees or study modules.
