Sustainability Master Class 2019 – Apply Now!

The University of Helsinki and Valio call for applications to participate in this year’s Sustainability Master Class. Master Class is a challenge-based programme for forward-looking minds from academia, business world and society.

This year’s Sustainability Master Class will focus on nutrition, food waste reduction, and the well-being of milk producers. The programme is open to Master’s level students, young researchers and young professionals who are interested in sustainability and corporate social responsibility. During the four-month-long programme, multidisciplinary teams develop their own concrete solution to one of the challenges using design thinking and co-creation tools, with the help of facilitated teamwork, mentoring, a science camp and a two-day bootcamp.

Challenge 1:  Develop a tool to manage the risks related to the well-being of the Finnish milk producers, as well as to recognise and prevent burnout (of the producers).

Challenge 2. Create a tool or solution that enables people to understand the significance of diet for their health and well-being, and to help them make necessary changes to their lifestyles.

Challenge 3. Develop a nutrition related tool or solution that helps to maintain the elderly people’s health and vitality.

Challenge 4: Develop a tool or solution for companies, stores or restaurants to influence consumer behaviour in order to reduce food waste.

Sustainability Master Class is a part of the University of Helsinki’s Environmental Change and Global Sustainability (ECGS) Master’s Program but it is open to students and researchers from different faculties and sectors. The participants who successfully complete the course work will gain 5 ECTS credits. The responsible teacher is Kaisa Korhonen-Kurki.
