You are able to apply for unemployment benefits, if it can be verified that you have ended your studies at the university. As a rule, this means that you have graduated or forfeited your study right.
A jobseeker is not considered full-time student if the studies can be proven to be part-time, based on working sufficiently or engaging sufficiently in self-employment activity alongside the studies.
Ended studies
Unless there are reasons to the contrary, you will be considered to have ended your studies after
- graduating
- forfeiting your right to study at the university
- losing your right to study, or after the right has been revoked
- suspending your studies for at least one year. This means you have had no studies recorded as completed for the last year, nor have you attended any teaching. The grounds for suspension have no bearing on the matter, nor does your registration for attendance or non-attendance.
Further information about unemployment benefits can be obtained from the TE offices.
Student Services will provide you with certificate of student status and transcript of studies if they are needed for the benefit application. As an attending student you can download the certificate of student status and transcript from Sisu.
