Studies in the teaching subject for Subject teachers

The instruction belongs to the following themes

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

Studies in the teaching subject are part of the studies that provide students with the qualification of a subject teacher. Below is a list a of studies in teaching subjects offered by the degree programmes of the University of Helsinki by school subject; more detailed information about the studies and how to apply to them is available under the theme Optional studies

Further information about subject teacher qualifications is available in the Planning to become a subject teacher? guide.

Basic education or general upper secondary level qualification?

The right to pursue studies in a teaching subject

If you want to complete studies in your teaching subject as optional studies (i.e., in some other study track than your own), you may have to apply for a right to pursue studies in them.

More detailed information about the studies listed below, restrictions to study rights and applying for studies are available in the field-specific optional studies instructions under the theme Optional studies.

Things to take into account regarding advanced studies

Any advanced study modules aimed at subject teachers are included in the list. However, it is possible that other advanced modules in the same master’s programme may be accepted as studies in the teaching subject. Advanced study modules aimed at subject teachers have been planned so that the pedagogical studies required of teachers are included in the master’s degree.

If you wish to complete advanced studies in the teaching subject by completing some other module than the advanced studies aimed at subject teachers (if, for example, you have completed the pedagogical studies as a part of another degree), verify the equivalence of the studies with the module coordinator. The name of the coordinator can be found in SISU under the study module details.
